Steadfast Patience & Endurance: The Long Road to Healing and Humility
Have you ever felt exhausted trying to heal, forgive, or change—only to realize you might be the only one doing the work?
In this episode of Heartfelt Conversations with Diana, we continue our journey of learning to see life from a higher, kingdom perspective—and what it really takes to walk out healing, humility, and freedom.
Diana shares a deeply personal story of frustration, unmet expectations, and the moment God revealed a life-changing truth through His Word: that true transformation requires steadfast patience and endurance.
This conversation is for anyone who feels worn down by long seasons, strained relationships, unresolved pain, or delayed promises. Together, we’ll explore how God’s living and active Word strengthens us for the long haul, why humility is not weakness but strength, and how trusting God—one step at a time—leads to wholeness, peace, and unshakable hope.
If you’re tired, discouraged, or wondering why healing is taking so long, this episode will remind you: you are not alone, you are not behind, and God is still at work in you.
Diana’s Notes
Steadfast Patience & Endurance
Hello everybody!!! And welcome to today’s episode,” Steadfast Patience & Endurance: The Long Road to Healing and Humility” - here on Heartfelt Conversations with Diana!
Today, we are picking up on:
Expanding our kingdom vision by decreasing our earthly view.
Ever wonder why the same people can look so different through different seasons of life?
Last week we talked about relationships and learning to see people- and ourselves- from a higher perspective- with a heavenly perspective - with kingdom vision. God invites us to see people through His eyes.
But how? How can we learn to see ourselves and others differently, and through the eyes of God? Well, by looking at the heart of a person. This can seem nearly impossible until we begin to allow the word of God to become alive and active within us.
Unforgiveness, bitterness, resentment, and unresolved pain can distort our view, our attitude towards a person, towards others, and even towards ourselves.
If you’ve struggled with family relationships, unforgiveness, or letting go of the past, you are not alone! I hope that through our conversations here on Heartfelt Conversations with Diana, we will all be encouraged to pause, reflect, and discover healing, wholeness, and true freedom through humility, grace, and God’s truth.
A fresh perspective can change everything.
So lately, I have been focusing on developing my spirit of humility, which we touched on last week.
For me, this journey started several years ago, but because I was such a mess on the inside, it has taken a lot of unraveling of all the stubborn knots and tangles that kept me in the chains of frustration, anger, resentment, and fear.
I remember sitting on a couch studying the bible, which had become a vital necessity for me. I was determined to overcome all the stinkin’ thinkin’ that entwined and embedded itself deep, deep within me.
One thing I quickly learned was that this was going to take more than sheer human strength, willpower, and determination because for every step forward I thought I was taking, I would fall several steps back. It seemed that the harder I tried, the worse my attitude became.
Why? Why was this happening? Well, partially because I relied on other people changing, too. I expected other people to do their part; at the same time, I was trying to be intentional in doing my part.
Has anyone else experienced that, or is experiencing that? You take a step, they take a step, and you should eventually meet in the middle, right? But it felt more like I would step, then I would step again, and again, and again; and they would remain right where they were. They didn’t seem to be trying to change anything about their attitude or behavior. It was just me doing all of the work.
So as I sat on the couch, taking my frustrations to God and crying -
“ It just isn’t fair! Why do I seem to be the only one who cares enough to try and fix this?? I have been trying and trying and trying! I am exhausted! What is it, God??? What? What do I need???”
I felt like I was missing something, that I was lacking a very important step in this new mindset of Christ I was trying to develop, but I did not know what it was, and I was losing heart. Losing hope. But I didn’t want to. I felt like if I didn’t solve this missing piece, I may never be whole again. I may never get rid of this negative Nellie attitude that I seemed to dress myself in every single day, even though I hated it. I knew it didn’t fit me. It was not me, but I couldn’t seem to change it, and it didn’t help that the person I thought I needed to change with me was quite happy dressing in the same attitude every day, completely satisfied.
So, I was crying and almost badgering God to show me what it was I was missing, and I remember just saying over and over in a very agitated tone,
What do I need?? What?? What do I need?
And then God gave me a living, active word from the bible. It felt more like a smack upside the head than the loving, gentle, “there, there” - you know, a tender little pat on the head or heart that I was expecting.
Theologians, Bible Scholars, would call this a Rhema word;
Rhema is a Greek word and means “Utterance” or “that which is spoken”
Basically, it refers to the revealed, personal word of God that applies specifically to an individual’s life and situation.
So what was this “word” God gave to me at a crucial crossroads I was facing?
Well, it was Hebrews 10:36 in the Amplified Bible, and it goes like this.”
For you have need ( Very specific to what I was asking, “what do I need!” 🙁, anyways…
For you have need of steadfast patience and endurance, so that you may perform and fully accomplish the will of God, and thus receive and carry away (and enjoy to the full) what is promised.
I wanted God to do a complete makeover in my life. Kinda like what we talked about last week, with life’s circumstances getting all of its crud in our pores and needing to exfoliate to remove the dead cells and help rejuvenate our flesh with new, living, healthy cells.
But unfortunately, it doesn’t just happen overnight, or with one treatment. It is a daily routine that we have to incorporate into our lives.
And guess what? We can’t exfoliate vicariously through another person, with or without them. This is something personal we have to do.
God was telling me that I was going to have to be prepared for the long haul, with or without anyone else. This was my cleansing treatment.
If I wanted the “new me” I so desperately longed for, then it was going to take time, and I needed the ability to undergo this transformation with the understanding that it was going to take longer than I anticipated.
It was not anything I could will- power my way through. This new attitude of heart, mind, soul, and spirit was going to be a long, difficult, and sometimes painful journey. If I wanted to receive and enjoy all God promised, then as the saying goes… it was time to buckle up, buttercup!!
I know it does not sound enticing at all! When we go to the self-help section, we want a 10-minute cure, not a 10-year journey requiring steadfast, patient endurance.
See why it felt like a smack upside the head! Lol God gave me that verse on October 24th, 2018.
From August 2017 until that day, I wrestled, struggled, and battled to make everything in my life be the way I wanted it to be, the way I thought it should have been before everything derailed. Before I kicked God out of the Captain’s chair, I decided I would be better off as my own captain. I am the boss of my own life! Come on, somebody!! Who knows what I am saying here??!! LOL
Everything would just be fine if everyone else would just change too!! HAHA
Fool! We are fools if we convince ourselves that all the broken stuff would be immediately fixed if the people around us would just jump on our train.
I say that with the deepest amount of love, because I once believed that.
And then, God. God in His living word showed me that my journey was, in fact, my journey. No one else's, and the saying “living for an audience of One” became very real to me.
This journey to my promised land, to enjoy life to the full, was a journey only God and I could take together.
I had to stop praying for everyone around me to change, and I had to pick up the baton and begin my own race. But the race is a marathon. And the marathon was going to require Steadfast, Patient, Endurance.
That was the beginning of learning about Selfless Humility, even though at the time, I didn’t know that was the pathway I was stepping onto.
If God had shown me the whole path before I embarked on this adventure with Him, I am not sure I would have been brave enough, strong enough, confident enough to take the risk.
But it isn’t risky business; it is the business of Faith. Faith that God will order and direct our steps. He will lead us to the quiet waters. He will bring us into greener pastures. But if we try to outsmart Him, outmaneuver Him, try to manage Him, and manifest our own outcome like we must admit we do sometimes, then we will not have the faith to trust Him as we go. Day by day. Morning to new morning.
God wants to gently, lovingly, tenderly lead us on His good path, but our hearts have to become humble enough to allow Him to.
He created us with self-will, and that is beautiful, full of variety, because we are all so different, unique, a wonderful array of God’s sweet aromas.
He does not want to break our spirit but transform it into His likeness, and He does not want us to break our own spirits or the spirits of others by thinking this is something we can do on our own, or manipulate or contrive others through temper tantrums and bad attitudes.
So, we learn Selfless Humility little by little, glory by glory. One tiny baby step at a time.
I know this does not sound exciting at all, and most of us would think pride is strength, not humility, but the opposite is actually true.
Pride is generally led by emotions, whereas humility is led by a calm, inner strength that comes from trusting that God has our back. If He is for us, who or what has a chance to come against us?
The book of Romans says it this way -
Romans 8:31(AMP) What then shall we say to all these things? If God is for us, who can be [successful] against us?
Humility is not for the weak, which is why God wisely told me what I needed to hear, not what I wanted to hear.
In order to have the calm, inner strength, wholeness, real joy that nothing and no one could steal away- that is rooted deeper than the people or circumstances that always seemed to knock me down, I would need to develop a healthy humility, rather than letting my pride take over when I felt under attack.
My pride would take God out of the equation, but learning to be humble required me to trust God and let go of control. Given my past, and especially a past that included violence and very controlling people, it was not going to be easily healed.
God knew I would have to be patient, have endurance, and be resolute in my desire to overcome it. So, He gave me something sharper than any double-edged sword, His word.
Remember one of the verses from our last conversation in A View From The Top,
Hebrews 4:12 (BSB ) tells us: For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
A double-edged sword is defined as a situation, action, or decision that can yield both beneficial and detrimental effects. It originates from the literal concept of a sword with two sharp edges, which can be effective in combat but also poses a risk to the wielder. (Cambridge University )
Our words are like that. They can be double-edged. Have you ever blurted something out at someone in a moment of anger, feeling justified in what you were saying, only to feel regret and remorse later?
When we learn to hear and see with our spiritual eyes and ears, by getting God’s word into us, then from the overflow of His word, we speak.
There is never regret or remorse because His word is filled with LIFE.
His living and active word (the bible) helped me when the struggle was just too hard, when I felt like giving up or that there was no way I could bear the work of recovering from the past.
Every time I wanted to quit, like a coach or a personal workout trainer, His voice was in my ear saying:
“You are in need of steadfast patience and endurance.” Knowing He gave this verse to me was like Him saying,” Come on, you’ve got this, just give me one more, one more push, one more mile, just one more, you’ve got this, come on!!!”
It was a jolt of supernatural strength and determination that I had one more in me. I could do it! I was not going to quit! I was developing spiritual perseverance muscles!
So what is Steadfast, Patient, Endurance? Well, you can find a lot about it online in various bible study apps, the dictionary, and the bible itself. In essence, it is:
the active, unwavering ability to remain firm and unyielding. To keep going through difficulties, trials, and delays in what we are hoping for and expecting to receive.
But not with a dreaded resignation, but with active faith, trusting in God's timing, with a calm determination.
It is what leads us to spiritual maturity without losing hope that it will come to pass. It's a strong inner courage to handle hardship without being defeated.
It requires a reliance on God for strength because it goes way beyond our own ability.
Without it, I believe it is impossible to develop spiritual completeness. A unity, or oneness with God.
Steadfast patient endurance is active; it is not a passive quality. It's more than just "bearing it"; it's an active, productive waiting and being still, knowing we are depending on God to show up and do what only He can do.
As much as this part sucks! LOL It develops like a muscle when we are facing challenges, tests, and suffering, not during the easy times.
It's essential for becoming mature, complete, and lacking nothing, leading to proven character and hope.
It involves trusting God's purposes and timing, even when promises seem delayed.
It strengthens and develops our inner fortitude, resilience, and determination to hold firmly to our beliefs in that God is Who He says He is and will do what He says He will do.
Without it, how do we hold on, knowing that His promises are for each and every one of us on a personal level?
A couple of other verses in God’s word that we can partner with Hebrews 10:36 are:
James 1:2-4: (NLT) Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.
For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
When life challenges us, it actually can help us to develop perseverance (patient endurance), which eventually leads us to being complete and perfect.
Romans 5:3-4: (NIV) but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.
Suffering does not seem like a positive thing, but with the Holy Spirit helping us and with the right attitude, we can begin to learn that suffering produces perseverance, which produces proven character, which produces hope.
In training, there is a saying, “no pain, no gain” lol
Not that we enjoy suffering, but we understand that in our suffering God will help us to become stronger, deepen our character, and increase our faith and hope in Him. That He works everything out, and that gives us the ability to keep going with a more positive outlook when we feel knocked down.
I don’t know about you, but there have been many days that life just seemed too hard, too difficult, and too demanding, and I just didn’t think I had anything left to give.
My hope is that you know you are not alone. I can testify that I have had not just days, but decades like that, and if God can take a broken mess of a human like me and take all the broken pieces and begin to shape and mold and create a new path, a new way, a new life, He can and will do the same for you.
But it is up to us to show up and do the work, to follow the plan.
The plan is simple. Jesus. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
John 14:6 (NIV) Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Trusting Jesus will give us the peace and assurance we need when we face difficult seasons.
When we follow His lead, He will give us the grace and wisdom we need to face every challenge.
And when we are anchored in God’s word, following the example of Jesus, we will have a strong foundation that withstands anything or anyone that tries to break us or rob us of our confident hope in Him.
We are not alone. We can find strength and hope in the face of adversity when we put our trust in the One True Sovereign God.
And that, my friends, is how we develop a steadfast, patient endurance for anything that comes our way.
Well, that wraps up our conversation today. I hope you are encouraged to get out there and seize your day!
Chin Up! Stay encouraged, knowing you are fully known and fully loved by God Almighty Himself - If He is for you, who can be successful against you?

Jesus has given salvation, healing, and countless benefits to all who call upon His name. These benefits can be yours if you receive Him into your heart by saying this prayer:
Heavenly Father, I come to You admitting that I am a sinner. Right now, I choose to turn away from sin, and I ask You to cleanse me of all unrighteousness. I believe that Jesus rose again from the dead so that I may be justified and made righteous through faith in Him. I call upon the name of Jesus Christ to be the Savior and Lord of my life. Jesus, I choose to follow You, and I ask that You fill me with the power of the Holy Spirit. I declare right now that I am a born-again child of God.
